For twenty-five years, I was a primary school teacher, and I loved every single one of them.
Every school holiday, my husband and I would make the drive to Qualicum Beach — and the moment those beautiful shores came into view, something in me would exhale.
There was something about this place. The ocean air, the quiet streets, the familiar faces. It always felt like coming home.
Eight years ago, after my last class, a small boutique came up for lease not far from that same beach.
My husband Tom looked at me across the kitchen table and didn't say a word.
He didn't have to.
I'd spent twenty-five years helping children discover their confidence. Now, I wanted to help women rediscover theirs.
So we took a leap.
We moved to Qualicum Beach, and that same year, I opened the doors of Wendy's Qualicum Beach for the very first time.
I still remember that first morning.
The excitement. The nerves. The little feeling of wondering whether I'd made the right decision.
Looking back now, I know I did.
For eight wonderful years, this little boutique has been so much more than a shop to me.
It has been a place where women came in for a dress and stayed for a conversation.
A place where friendships were made.
A place where I watched women look in the mirror and, sometimes, see themselves a little differently.
Now I'm sixty-four, and it's time to close this chapter.
Not because something went wrong.
Because something went beautifully right — and I'm wise enough to know when a story has reached its ending.
This is my favourite sale.
Every piece I've ever chosen for this boutique was chosen with one woman in mind — the real woman, not the one on the hanger.
The woman who has spent years caring for everyone else.
The woman who deserves to feel beautiful, comfortable and confident.
The woman who may have forgotten just how lovely it feels to find something that makes her smile when she looks in the mirror.
That hasn't changed.
Everything must go, at the lowest prices I've ever offered.
So if you've ever stopped by my little shop, had a chat with me, found a favourite dress, or simply enjoyed a browse while walking through Qualicum Beach, I hope you'll come and see me one more time.
Take your time.
Try something on.
And if you find something that makes you stop and think, “Oh, I love this…”
Trust that feeling.
I built this place around exactly that moment.
Thank you, Qualicum Beach, for eight wonderful years.
And thank you to every woman who ever walked through my door.
It has been an absolute privilege.
With love,
Wendy Anderson ❤️
